The Ypres Tower is a Medieval building and has served the town as a castle, a private home, a Court Hall, a gaol and now a Museum. See where prisoners were chained, the cold cells where they served time, the tiny chamber where murderer John Breads waited for the gallows. There are exhibits on smuggling, policing and defence. From the Tower, there is a grand view of what was once one of the most important harbours in the country. Medieval Garden, Women’s Prison Tower. Open all year.
